I am an experienced and professionally qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapist registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), UK Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP) and a full professional member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC). As well as having a private practice I also work in an inpatient NHS Psychotherapy unit.  For many years I was the Clinical Lead for a Psychotherapy Service working with men in a secure forensic estate who had engaged in violent, harmful and criminal behaviour.

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist I believe that current patterns of behaviour are often affected by experiences earlier on in our lives.  Our choices in the present are often dictated to us by what has happened in the past.

I offer one-to-one sessions for individuals and couples in a quiet and confidential space where you are free to talk safely without fear of rejection, judgement or blame.  I will help you think about your thoughts, feelings and experiences relating to your current difficulties, as well as exploring how they may be connected to other areas of your life.

This type of therapy is non prescriptive, I will not tell you which direction to take as it is about you finding out what it is you want. You choose what to talk about in sessions and together we can try and understand why it is you do certain things and react in certain ways. The relationship to the therapist is a crucial element to the therapy, highlighting unconscious patterns of behaviour which can then gradually become identified and in doing so help us to develop the capacity to understand and change them. Understanding more about both past and present relationships and increasing self-awareness can help affect change. Through understanding what is happening we can explore how to move forward.

We will meet for an initial consultation which lasts for 50 minutes during which time we will be able to explore what your needs are and how psychotherapy may help you, this will be done over one or two sessions.  Should we agree to work together then sessions last for 50 minutes and take place on the same day each week.  I offer a minimum of once a week sessions.

I provide both open ended and time limited therapy. Time limited therapy of 12 sessions or less may be appropriate where there is an immediate crisis or clearly defined problem.

I have experience of working within the NHS and various voluntary organisations. I also have extensive experience of working with offenders.  I have worked as a psychotherapist in the psychotherapy department at Charing Cross Hospital, as a counsellor in a secondary school, and as a psychotherapist at WPF. I have experience of working with a variety of issues and client groups including people with addiction issues, anger issues and personality disorders.  I also offer Mentalisation Based Therapy.
